Dua Qunoot | Dua e Qunoot For Witr Salah

In daily five-time prayers, various recitations, including Surah, Tashahud, Darood, and the supplication of Masura, are required. One important supplication is known as Dua Qunoot, which is considered one of the valuable prayers. Through this supplication, significant requests are presented to Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would sometimes recite Dua Qunoot.

The Witr prayer can be offered any time from after the Isha prayer until just before dawn. During the third or final Rak'ah of the Witr prayer, Dua Qunoot is recited before going into Ruku. This prayer represents a deep conversation between the servant and Allah in the quiet of the night. As a result of this supplication, Allah is pleased with His servant, fulfilling their needs and granting them relief from worldly troubles.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the Witr prayer and would sometimes wake his wife to join him. He would recite Surah Al-Ala in the first Rak'ah, Surah Al-Kafiroon in the second, and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the third. Occasionally, he would also recite Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas. (Bukhari, Hadith: 512, 997; Muslim, Hadith: 744; Musnad Ahmad, Hadith: 2720; Tirmidhi, Hadith: 462)

The term Qunoot refers to silence, prayer, standing in worship, etc. The purpose of Qunoot is to make supplications to Allah while standing in prayer. In the daily five prayers, various recitations, including Surah, Tashahud, Darood, and Dua Masura, are essential components. Another significant supplication is Dua Qunoot.

Meaning of Dua Qunoot in Bengali

O Allah! We seek your help, we ask for your forgiveness, we have faith in you, we rely upon you, and we entrust all goodness to you. We are grateful to you and do not become ungrateful. O Allah! We are your servants, we pray to you and prostrate before you. We run towards you and strive forward. We hope for your mercy and fear your punishment. Your punishment is certainly prescribed for the disbelievers.

Historical Incident of Dua Qunoot

According to narrations from Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Muhammad ibn Isa at-Tirmidhi, and Abu Dawood, Hasan ibn Ali (RA) learned this dua from Muhammad (SAW). It has also been mentioned that when any calamity or disaster befell the Muslims, Muhammad (SAW) would recite Dua Qunoot.

Is it acceptable not to recite Dua Qunoot in Witr prayer?

Reciting Dua Qunoot in the Witr prayer is a Sunnah. If someone recites it, they have performed the prayer correctly, while if someone thinks they will not recite Dua Qunoot and will simply finish the prayer after one rak'at, that is also permissible. The early righteous scholars have emphasized the importance of Dua Qunoot. As a result, some scholars consider it Sunnah, while others say it is obligatory. However, the view of it being obligatory is weaker in terms of evidence. If someone does not know Dua Qunoot, they can recite any other form of dua. There is no established hadith regarding reciting Surah Ikhlas three times. If one does not know any dua, they can engage in Tasbih and Takbir.
